UF Veterinary Medicine Surgery Lab

Veterinary Health

This project included a complete renovation of the existing facility to reorganize the space, allowing the addition of four surgery stations (for a total of 18), and providing a new dog ward for holding and recovery with 18 kennels, food preparation, and sanitation facilities. The induction area and scrub areas were also reconfigured, providing 10 scrub/gowning stations, and allowing staff and students to prep up to 8 animals for surgery simultaneously. All finishes were updated to meet current campus standards. 

Project also included reconfiguring medical gas systems, power, lighting, and  HVAC upgrades, new surgery lighting, and acoustical treatment in the surgery lab space. Completed on an accelerated schedule, design was started in December of 2021, and construction started in May of 2022. Construction was completed in January of 2023.  

Alachua County Office of the Public Defender

Public/Civic

The Alachua County Public Defender had outgrown their previous space. A new 20,000+ sq.ft. space co-located with the Alachua County Courthouse required an efficient footprint and architecture that was complementary to the established context. This new location, coupled with the function of the Alachua County Public Defender, additionally required incorporation of robust building security elements. Brame Heck provided full design services and construction administration services.

Santa Fe College
Building E Auditorium Renovation

Higher Education

The Santa Fe College Building E Auditorium was in need of repairs, technology upgrades, and updates to their ADA compliance. Brame Heck Architects and our design team researched and implemented the most state-of-the-art updates to the A/V systems, and ensured ADA-compliant entry into the building and restrooms, and onto the stage. The design also included acoustical upgrades to prevent sound leakage and ensure high sound quality for the auditorium’s use as a performance space. Our team transformed a tired and non-compliant space into a beautiful, functional, and accessible auditorium. Brame Heck provided full design services and construction administration services.

University of Florida
Center for Outdoor Education and Recreation (CORE)

Higher Education

The University of Florida’s Travel, Recreation, and Outfitters Programs needed a new point of sale area, storage for rental outdoor gear, and space to host outdoor-related skills workshops. The new 6,119 square-foot facility included offices, retail/point of sale space, a classroom/meeting room, and equipment storage area. The selected site was located in an area with poor soils, requiring extensive remediation and structural foundation. Brame Heck provided full design services and construction administration services. 

University of Florida
Southwest Recreational Facility Room #120A Renovation

Higher Education

University of Florida RecSports needed a larger conference room that could also serve as a classroom for their training and certification courses. To expand the existing conference room, an existing racquetball court had to be removed. Because of the proximity to the basketball and racquetball courts, emphasis on acoustic concerns was key to the design. The renovated 1,506 square-foot space included a large storage area for tables, chairs, and other training equipment. Brame Heck provided full design services and construction administration services.

University of Florida
Architecture and Fine Arts Library Renovation

Higher Education

Renovations to the University of Florida’s Architecture and Fine Arts Library included a new seminar/meeting space, one new staff office, and one new storage closet. Renovations also included a new custom circulation and reference area, a new compliant water cooler in a more accessible location, and a new book display. In the reading room, electrical and data services were reconfigured in order to relocate numerous computer workstations. Floor-mounted “tombstone” electrical outlets were replaced with flush floor mounted outlets. The new conference area was enclosed with aluminum storefront. All ceiling and floor finishes within the circulation area, entry, and the new conference area were replaced. Brame Heck provided full design services and construction administration services.

Micanopy Area Cooperative School New Cafetorium

Schools

The new cafetorium building at the Micanopy Area Cooperative School includes a 4,760 square-foot building to accommodate a seated audience of 262 people, a raised platform stage area, two single toilets, storage for chairs and tables, a commercial kitchen and supporting storage, and a serving line. Brame Heck provided full design services and construction administration services.

Holy Faith Catholic Church New Parish Life Center

Religious

In 2017, Brame Heck Architects was awarded the City of Gainesville City Beautification Award for our design of a new Parish Life Center on the long-standing Holy Faith Catholic Church campus. Holy Faith was established in Gainesville in 1973; it is now in the center of Gainesville, and has a thriving membership of over 2,100 families. The two original buildings of the parish were built in 1976.

By 2013, the 1976 buildings were aging, and becoming too small for the church’s growing parish; the parishioners decided to build a new, 18,000 square foot Parish Life Center, and enthusiastically raised the funds needed for construction. The new Parish Life Center building is located opposite the original church buildings, and three of the four parish buildings are designed in the same style, and built with the same materials, giving the campus a unified feel. The integration of a brand-new building into a campus of well-established facilities offered a unique design challenge.

Queen of Peace Administrative Building

Religious/Schools

Queen of Peace required a new building to provide adequate support facilities for the existing Catholic Church Community. Included were thirteen offices, record storage facilities, and meeting rooms. Energy efficiency played an important role; as a result, LED lighting and VRF units were utilized throughout. Soils were determined to contain amounts of expansive materials, which required the design and construction of a post-tensioned slab which was honed and stained in the lobby. Brame Heck provided full design services and construction administration services.

Innovation Academy

Higher Education

In order to achieve their goal of fostering creativity, entrepreneurship and critical thinking the University of Florida Innovation Academy needed a new active learning classroom. Located on the 3rd floor of the existing Infirmary building, the 696 SF classroom renovation included the removal of existing partition walls and break area. A new glass by-pass partition wall was installed and movable furniture was used to allow for a more collaborative and flexible use of the space.

Rhines Hall

Higher Education

Brame Heck Architects, Inc. provided design and construction administration services for the renovations to Suite 108 at Rhines Hall. The renovated area included demolition of all existing partitions, a new waiting area with a reception desk and coffee service area, an open office space with a break area, a single private office, and a conference room. The work aimed to improve the student experience, enhance private, and increase efficiency and comfort for advising staff.

Waldo Fire Station

Public Safety

Alachua County Fire Rescue needed to relocated firefighters and equipment from their existing building in Waldo, FL. This new single-story 5,684 square foot building provides a living space for the firefighters, a watch room, and an equipment area. The equipment area consists of two bays with a full range of support facilities.

Eastside High School Auditorium

Performing Arts

Eastside High School Auditorium required various renovated components, including lighting and sound systems. The renovated space included the stage, occupant seating, and an audio control station. The design included some demolition and re-design of the interior concerning previous theater lighting, house lighting and power, lobby lighting, audio systems, minor paint work, and an unconditioned control booth.

Clay Electric Keystone Heights

Office

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc. was in need of a new district office in Keystone Heights, FL. This is one of four designs completed by Brame Heck Architects for other Clay Electric offices, including Lake City, Palatka, and Salt Springs. Demolition of two existing headquarters buildings allowed for the new construction. In addition to full engineering and landscaping services provided for this 1.8 acre site, the design included new offices, a customer service space, a warehouse, and a conference room for employees.

High Springs Farmers Market Pavilion

Public Spaces

The City of High Springs proposed the development of a one story farmer’s market pavilion, or an open air engineered metal building. This was constructed on a parcel in downtown High Springs between the Chamber of Commerce building and Northeast Second Street. Minor site improvements occurred to accommodate accessible parking and any USDA requirements. The foundation is conventional reinforced concrete footings and slab-on-grade bearing on sandy soils. Subconsultants assisted Brame Heck Architects, Inc. with an associated parking lot, driveway connections, stormwater management, and utility service connections.

University Of Florida Chemistry Hall

Higher Education

Brame Heck Architects, Inc. provided design and construction administration services for various interior renovations to Room C130 in the Chemistry Laboratory Building #28 at the University of Florida. Along with the renovation of Room C130, Building #28 also underwent a reroof; the existing clay tile roof, membrane, and wood deck were removed, the drain was reconfigured, and the existing tiles were cleaned and reinstalled.
