Alachua County Waldo Fire Station No. 40 

New Fire Station Station 40 was designed under a continuing services agreement for Alachua County Fire Rescue. The program included private bunk space for 6 crew members plus an officer, a full kitchen, watch room, office, fitness room, and day room. This station was intended as a prototype for future county stations and is adaptable

within a range of crew and apparatus bay sizes.

Hippodrome Cinema Renovation

This project required a strict budget and included upgrades to the existing 1,240 square foot cinema, and upgrades to the restrooms in the historic Old Post Office building, now known as the Hippodrome Theatre. The goal was to maintain the Art House Cinema aesthetic. The cinema’s fixed seating was replaced along with new flooring, new paint, new acoustic panels, and new lighting. The existing theatrical partitions were replaced with mobile rotating partitions for flexible use of the space. Finishes were upgraded and plumbing fixtures in the restrooms were replaced including toilet partitions, wall mounted sinks, lavatories and water closets. 

Union County Courthouse Re-roof

This re-roof included design, construction administration and grant administration services for the complete removal and replacement of the roof of a historically significant courthouse, including, the 1960s and 1990s additions.  The existing roof was replaced by a modified bitumen system with added insulation. Services included site investigation and documentation of existing roof conditions, before preparing construction drawings and specifications. The project was completed under a continuing service contract. Phase 2, the window replacement, is under construction.

Hernando County Fire Rescue Station No. 6 Crew Quarters Addition

Fire Rescue Station No. 6 was taken over from a volunteer department by Hernando County Fire Rescue in 2017 and completed with grant funding, with design beginning in 2019. The existing apparatus bay was retained, while the crew quarters were demolished and replaced. Originally designed for six crew members plus a lieutenant, the program was reduced to four personnel during construction. Programming also included a full service kitchen, and equipment lockers.  Located in a Coastal Wave Action Zone, the station required an elevated main level and breakaway ground-floor walls. The station also serves a civic role in Hernando Beach, accommodating public gatherings. Artwork by local artists was preserved and reinstalled.

Alachua County Public Defender Office

The Alachua County Public Defender had outgrown their previous space. A new 20,000+ square foot space located near the Alachua County Courthouse was necessary. Program verification included offices, client meeting spaces, conference and clerical spaces, IT facilities, and administrative work space. Sharing a site with the existing Alachua County Courthouse required an efficient footprint and architecture that was complementary to the established context. This new location, coupled with the function of the Alachua County Public Defender, additionally required the attention to and incorporation of robust building security elements, plan efficiency, and site constraints. 

City of High Springs Farmer's Market Pavilion 

The City of High Springs proposed the development of a 3,000 square foot one-story farmer’s market pavilion, or an open air engineered metal building. This was constructed on a parcel in downtown High Springs between the Chamber of Commerce building and Northeast Second Street. Per USDA grant requirements, an additional parcel had to be purchased by the City to accommodate accessible parking and minor site improvements were needed.  The foundation is conventional reinforced concrete footings and

slab-on-grade bearing on sandy soils.

GRACE Marketplace Dormitory Remodel

This pro bono project provided renovations of an existing dormitory building at the Grace Marketplace campus in Gainesville, Florida. The work focused on reconfiguring the dormitory to include semi-private sleeping cubicles and upgrading shared bathroom facilities to ensure code compliance. Services included evaluating occupant loads, confirming plumbing fixture counts, improving shower and toilet privacy, removing urinals, and upgrading restrooms for ADA compliance. New interior finishes were specified throughout the renovated areas for a refreshed look.
